I would rather be English, French or even Dutch, today. I find it really frustrating to be a Belgian at the other side of the world. Especially a Belgian who wants to see The Red Devils winning Euro 2016 in France. Because, face it, we all thought it would be an easy game, a walk in the park. Even our neighbours are Belgians these days. The Netherlands wanted to support a team with the potential to become the next European Champion. We often make jokes about the Dutchies, and all of them are about dumb and silly people. It's a love/hate relationship really, but it would be justified to say it that way, this time. Sorry Marc, but you just lost millions of fans, millions of black, yellow, red flags will be burned or swapped for other beautiful flags. The Dutchies will probably cut our flag in pieces and reorder the colours so they can reuse it. It’s cheaper. Any ways: Lyon was our city for a day, until the game began.
Let’s be honest Marc and squad, this was not the best start ever. I know, I know, deep inside I know you're right. Nothing happened yet. That's true. Totally. Literally. You better make it happen against the Republic of Ireland. And Marc, please do us a favour and ask Kevin De Bruyne to play soccer next time, you know, that game with running and scoring…
Do I exaggerate? Maybe. I’m sure I do, and I have my reasons. I’m on the other side of the world, nobody here is interested in Euro 2016 and the hostel has no television with sport channels on it. Luckily the wifi worked perfectly. Until 10 minutes before the game started. Yes I’m mad, mad because I couldn’t see the Red Devils playing one of the worst games they played in a long time. Mad because I had to wake up at 7am to see some jerky pictures on my iPad and I’m also out of my mind because I have no single idea yet if I will be able to watch the next game. Does it matters? Yes! Off course it does. You’re asking why, right? Well, because Wilmots will wake up, the whole team will wake up and we’ll rule the next games. Please Red Devils, make me proud to be a Belgian again!
